Myopia Action Month Explained

Join Myopia Action Month: Protect Your Vision!

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common eye issue that can affect how well you see things far away. It's especially important to address, especially for our kids, because it can get worse as we grow older. Now, Myopia Profile is launching something exciting called Myopia Action Month, and it's not just for eye doctors (ECPs) – it's for everyone who cares about their vision!

Let me share a story with you. Recently, a customer told me about her experience with myopia. She's the only one in her family who wears glasses; everyone else has near-perfect eyesight. She regrets not starting to wear glasses earlier, back when she was in primary school. Because she waited, her myopia became significantly worse by the time she reached primary five. Today, in her early 40s, her prescription is more than -10.00, which means she has over 1000 degrees of myopia. She believes that if she had started wearing glasses earlier, her eyes might be in better shape today.

It's important to note that in the past, previous generations didn't have as many options when it came to lenses for children with myopia. But things are changing. Myopia control options for kids are improving! Thanks to technological advancements and proven results, the younger generation is moving towards myopia control lenses and other alternatives that will likely become the "new norm."

So, what's the plan? Myopia Action Month is all about getting ECPs and the public involved. ECPs will have access to videos, action plans, and useful content to learn more about myopia management. But it's not just for them. Everyone can join in!

For instance, simple actions like encouraging more outdoor activities for children have been linked to a lower risk of myopia development. Additionally, taking part in myopia screenings is an excellent choice to ensure your eyes are regularly checked for any signs of myopia and to receive timely guidance on maintaining good eye health.

Let's take what we know and turning it into action. So, when September arrives, remember that it's a chance for all of us to protect our vision. Let's do it together!
