How can you LOVE your eyes this Valentines?

What did the eye say to the heart during Valentine's Day? “I only have eyes for you!”

Valentine's Day is often associated with sweet treats like chocolates and cookies, but it's essential to remember to enjoy them in moderation. Overindulgence can potentially increase the risk of eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy, a condition that develops from diabetes and can harm the retina's blood vessels, leading to vision loss or even glaucoma (high pressure in the eye). So, while indulging in these Valentine's goodies, it's crucial to keep an eye on your overall sugar intake to protect your vision in the long run.

On Valentine’s Day, flowers are not one to be missed too! Although they add a touch of romance and beauty because of their enchanting allure, be mindful of the potential impact they can have on eye health. Many flowers produce pollen, which can trigger allergies and lead to allergic conjunctivitis (pink eye caused by allergies) or eye irritation, especially when they are too near to your face. To minimize the risk of allergies, wash your hands after touching the flowers and ensure proper ventilation to prevent risk of allergies. Alternatively, you can also check out the list of low allergen flowers here!

Amidst the romance, let's not forget another crucial aspect of Valentine's Day—the dates themselves! Whether strolling outdoors or engaging in artistic workshops, safeguarding our eyes is paramount. Wearing sunglasses with adequate UV protection shields our eyes from harmful sun rays, reducing the risk of conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration. Additionally, when partaking in crafts involving hazardous materials, such as woodworking or metalwork, wearing proper eye protection, like safety goggles, is crucial to prevent potential injuries like corneal (that’s where your contact lens goes) abrasions.

When else do you celebrate your love?

As love fills the air during Valentine's Day, don’t neglect your eyes but give them the care and attention they deserve (as much as the love you give your partner), to enjoy the day with clarity and joy! Happy Valentine’s Day to all, couples and singles! <3
